She’s played concert halls around the world, sold more than 500,000 records in her 30-plus-year career and been made a member of the Order of Canada. Now, the only thing left for Canada’s virtuoso violinist Angèle Dubeau is to head back to her parents’ basement, metaphorically speaking.

Game Music, recorded by Dubeau with her all-female string orchestra La Pietà, is a classical take on popular video game music, from Assassin’s Creed to Angry Birds.

"I have never placed limits on my choice of repertoire, and for this project, I reached toward a unique world that was creative and vibrant in its originality," Dubeau said in a press release, adding that she wanted to “preserve the form … while at the same time breathing new life into them.”

Just don’t expect to hear eight-bit blips and bloops, as Game Music elevates the music to make it worthy of a concert hall. Who knew the Tetris song could sound this amazing?

The playlist for Game Music, which also features a free app with trivia on video game music, also includes the music from Final Fantasy, Halo 3, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, Chrono Trigger, Heavy Rain and Secret of Mana.

Super Mario Bros. is sadly absent from the list.

What video game song would you like to hear receive the classical treatment? Let us know in the comments below.
