Cellist Denise Djokic grew up in Halifax in a family of musicians. Her father Philippe and brother Marc are both violinists and her mother Lynn Stodola is a pianist. Her aunt and uncle are cellists, and they were her first teachers.
Djokic's first CD appeared on the Sony label and almost immediately she was invited to perform at the Grammies. A subsequent CD, Folklore, won an East Coast Music Award and a Juno nomination; it was listed on the Billboard chart's top 15 classical recordings. Music critics have placed her recording of the Benjamin Britten cello suites alongside the classic recording by Mstislav Rostropovich.
Denise Djokic performs often with pianist David Jalbert. She's well respected in chamber music circles, and has appeared with orchestras in North America and Europe. Djokic is married to violinist Nelson Lee, who also comes from a family of musicians. As host of This Is My Music she reveals the details of their first date.
