If you were writing a Help Wanted ad for an indie musician, what would you include? "Applicants must possess a strong set of musical skills, the ability to grow a beard at the slightest provocation, and look good in plaid"? Important qualifications, to be sure. But in 2012, I think you'd have to add something else: "applicants must be willing and able to coerce people into buying their music by any means necessary.

To be a band these days is, in large part, to struggle to actually make some money from your music. It's a tough job, and the competition is fierce. Which make the strategy adapted by Digits so interesting. Instead of selling his new album, he's offering it as a free download. All you have to do is email him with proof that you've bought music from ANY band in the last two months, and he'll send you a download link. It may not be something that would work for every band, but it's a unique solution, and a great piece of teamwork to boot.
