Five reasons why Tony Bennett is still hip, at the age of 86:
1. Frank Sinatra was his best friend.
2. He inspires descriptions like this: “He's got a jaw like Gibraltar, pale green-blue eyes, silver hair, that perfect shade of all-year tan and a cobweb voice that casts spells.” — Douglas Thompson
3. His sound and phrasing is as unique as (pick your cliché): a snowflake, a fingerprint, your mom’s home cooking.
4. His obvious enjoyment of making music is unstoppable. Or as the New York Times once wrote: “Tony Bennett has steadfastly remained the embodiment of heart in popular music.”
5. He doesn't do things by halfway measures. Last week, he released his third duets-themed project, Viva Duets. This one features some of the big names in Latin popular music, from Marc Anthony to Gloria Estefan to Thalia — queen of Latin pop, famous actor and seller of gazillions of recordings. Together they paired up to sing the standard "The Way You Look Tonight."
