Alixander III (Alphonse Lanza), of Toronto's Juno- and Polaris Prize-nominated dance music act Azari & III, will release a solo debut LP Nov. 23. The Incline of Western Civilization Pt. III comes out on Lanza's own label, Idol Hanse, according to XLR8R.
In an interview with Azari & III on Friday, ahead of the group's Sonar North America tour, Lanza told CBC Electronic that he made the record in just two weeks on a brief break from touring.
"The record came about from just having this insane synthesizer junk and experimenting with it," he said. "And not being afraid to hit 'record' and put it out."
Check out the first single, "The Jugular," below. It's 22 unmastered minutes of spastic, murky techno — in direct contrast to the clean lines and pop presentation of Azari & III.
