Great Big Sea braved a great big storm to help Blue Rodeo celebrate their 25th anniversary, performing a rousing rendition of "What Am I Doing Here?" for a packed house at CBC's Glenn Gould Studio Monday night.
The Newfoundland folk rockers, who are celebrating their 20th anniversary (as well as the "second best box set release this week," joked Greg Keelor onstage.), were just one of many musical guests who ignored the Hurricane Sandy warnings in order to pay homage at the Blue Rodeo and Friends concert.
Watch their performance of "What Am I Doing Here?," as well as hear Blue Rodeo tell the story behind writing the Casino track.
Other guests of the evening included Cuff the Duke, Oh Susanna, Devin Cuddy, Justin Rutledge, Ron Sexsmith, Whitehorse, the Sadies and the Skydiggers' Andy Maize and Josh Finlayson, and was hosted by singer-songwriter and CBC Radio 2 Morning host Molly Johnson.
If you can't wait 'til then, be sure to check out the Blue Rodeo: 1987-1993 box set, which features the band's first five albums remastered, and learn the stories behind creating Outskirts, Diamond Mine, Casino, Lost Together and Five Days in July with our Blue Rodeo oral history.
Stay tuned for another performance from the intimate evening.
