It was dark and stormy outside, but that didn't stop Blue Rodeo and friends from providing audiences at the Glenn Gould Studio with a warm and intimate night of music.
To celebrate 25 years, Blue Rodeo invited Great Big Sea, Cuff the Duke, Oh Susanna, Devin Cuddy, Justin Rutledge, Ron Sexsmith, Whitehorse, the Sadies and the Skydiggers' Andy Maize and Josh Finlayson, to cover a range of hits from their first five albums.
Be sure to visit CBC's Concerts on Demand page for other performances from the evening.
To cap off the evening, Blue Rodeo invited all of their friends up to huddle together and perform, appropriately, "Lost Together." At centre stage was Jim Cuddy, Alan Doyle (Great Big Sea) and Melissa McClelland sharing one mic, but it was McClelland's solo that really brought the house down. Watch Cuddy and Keelor tell the story of writing "Lost Together," followed by the heartfelt performance.
Great Big Sea, the Newfoundland folk rockers who are celebrating their 20th anniversary (as well as the "second best box set release this week," joked Keelor onstage), were just one of many musical guests who ignored the Hurricane Sandy warnings in order to pay homage at the Blue Rodeo and Friends concert.
Watch their performance of "What Am I Doing Here?," as well as hear Blue Rodeo tell the story behind writing the Casino track.
Toronto alt-country band the Sadies definitely added an eerie undertone to the already moody Blue Rodeo song "Diamond Mine." Watch the performance, and hear Cuddy and Keelor talk about how it came to be.
