While at least one of us has already said goodbye to Perfect Youth – The Birth of Canadian Punk by Sam Sutherland, it's now time for our book club to follow suit and officially do the same. It's our last week with the book before we move on to November's selection, which one of you can win a copy of today. Read on for more info about doing that.
I caught up with my buddy Sam yesterday and we tried to discuss his book, CBC's biased coverage of the advent of punk, the "Chapters/Indigo Perfect Youth predicament" and some of your questions:
Well, as you can see, we were interrupted. Turns out when Chris Murphy of Sloan phones me on my iPhone, it cuts off any filming I might be doing with said phone. As it happens, Murphy had some bones to pick with Sutherland about his research for Perfect Youth:
Once Murphy "left," Sutherland was able to answer some of your questions about his book and introduce us to November's title. Thanks again to zoot aloors and StephRamsahai for those questions!
So, that's the end of our time with Perfect Youth and I hope you either enjoyed reading it or now feel compelled to pick up a copy of your own. Canadian punk rock will never die!
I have one copy of November's book to offer to the first person (not employed by the CBC) who posts below to tell me what Sutherland is holding at the end of the last video above.
If I tell you that you had the winning post below, please send your name (real and blog), mailing address and winning answer/question to rock@cbc.ca with “Lionel Trains” in the subject line.
