As part of our ongoing Guitar Month celebrations, tonight on Canada Live we feature the legendary Jimmy Rankin in concert, in CBC Halifax's Studio H. Accompanying him is Halifax's first-call session and live guitarist, Jamie Robinson (here's an article about him).
Between the two of them, they demonstrate just how much ground acoustic and electric guitars can cover. But it's not flash that's on display - rather, it's the subtle art of accompaniment. There is a tremendous amount of skill, sensitivity and artistry in creating the perfect sonic backdrop for lyrics and melody. It is the alchemy of mood creation, and these two fellows do it just about as well as anybody.
Check it out on Concerts on Demand, or tune in tonight for the broadcast.
