Karp Foley is Peter Karp and Sue Foley. While now a duo, each has an active career in his and her own right. New Jersey-based Karp has seven discs under his own name, including The Turning Point, which features Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor. Foley has been a mainstay on the Canadian blues scene for more than 25 years. She had 10 discs released before her first collaboration with Karp in 2010, called He Said, She Said.
From clubs to concert halls, front porches to festivals, live blues music is an integral part of North American culture. For their intimacy, house concerts have fast become a favourite live music experience. On Saturday Night Blues, in-studio conversation and performances seek to replicate that unique environment. Karp Foley stopped into the Saturday Night Blues studio back in March, as they were on tour to promote their latest disc, Beyond the Crossroads. Host Holger Petersen spoke with the two about the careers they had built individually and what it is like now, to be a duo.
The playful musical partnership between Karp and Foley is the true beauty of this video. As well, it offers the delightful opportunity to closely observe the guitar styles of these dynamic performers. Karp Foley live up to the tradition of blues duos like Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, or Buddy Guy and Junior Wells.
