On tonight's edition of Canada Live, we present our recent live recording of the Cowboy Junkies.
The Junkies charted several platinum and gold albums here in Canada, from the late 1980s through the mid-1990s. They’ve been consistently active since they formed in 1985, releasing albums and DVDs, and touring. That’s 27 years and counting -– an absolute eternity in the music business.
Recently, they reached the end of an extraordinarily ambitious project: releasing four albums in a mere eighteen months. The last album in the series, The Wilderness, was released in March. This provides proof positive that their creative fire is far from extinguished.
If you know the Cowboy Junkies for their big hit "Sweet Jane," you probably think of their sound as somewhat subdued. Make no mistake: the Junkies' sound has been getting heavier and heavier over time. They most definitely fit into our Guitar Month theme.
