As Guitar Month continues here on CBC Radio 2, we offer this great concert by the legendary Daniel Lanois. Adding to his many accolades, Lanois was inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall Of Fame last March. In celebration of that milestone, CBC presented a special concert, featuring Lanois and his trio (Brian Blade on drums, and Jim Wilson on bass).
Since the instrumentation is so sparse, we really get to hear Lanois' guitar work. Sitting on the more ethereal side of Neil Young, and flavoured with just a hint of his French-Canadian heritage, Lanois' guitar style occupies a place all its own. And when he plays the pedal steel guitar, or as he calls it, his "little church in a box," he might just make you weep.
Check it out online at Concerts on Demand, or tune in to the Nov. 22 edition of Canada Live, and we'll listen together.
