Guitar Month: bands that rock without guitars

It’s the final day of Guitar Month here at CBC Music, and if you’ve been visiting the site with any regularity you’ve probably seen your share of axe-men, Gibson godesses, thunder riffs and Angus Young’s legs. The guitar is the quintessential rock and roll instrument,- but it wasn’t always that way. At one time, the mighty piano was the powerhouse behind your average rock and roll band, driving powerful rhythm as well as the bluesy melody on top. But over time, the guitar has taken it’s place the hallmark of any rock band worth their salt.

So that demands the question: what bands can still rock without the help of their guitarist? We’ve asked you to send in your suggestions for artists that can still give’er without a six-string. Here are a few:

Ben Folds Five

Sarah Slean

Little Richard

Death From Above 1979

Keane

Jerry Lee Lewis

Fitz and The Tantrums

and, weirdly, Zamfir

There you are! If you have any suggestions, add ‘em to the blog and tune into CBC R2 Morning tomorrow to hear some songs by the guitarless rockers.
