British Columbia's country music community honoured its brightest and best at the 36th annual British Columbia Country Music Association Awards on Sunday night in Langley. One-time hockey pro turned major league singer-songwriter Chad Brownlee was the night's big winner, taking home the hardware in six of seven categories in which he was nominated, including Fan's Choice Award, entertainer of the year and male vocalist.
With her first album, and only her second single, "Hide Your Matches," released this fall, raven-haired AJ Woodworth captured female vocalist of the year.
Hot on the heels of a new artist showcase and FanFest showcase at September's CCMA Awards in Saskatoon, Sask., Kylee Epp was awarded the Ray McAuley Horizon Award as the BCCMA rising star.
And although on tour in Ontario, the Matinee scored two, for group of the year and the roots/Canadiana categories. Dallas Smith's, "Somebody Somewhere" won video of the year.
