UPDATE: Elliot's Vegan Non Turkey Day recommendations & the Heart Attack Potato Recipe found at the bottom of the post!

In all honesty, I think every long weekend should be celebrated with a feast, but why are so many the same?
Do you eat the same foods for Easter, Thanksgiving AND Christmas? Doesn’t anyone eat turkey outside of holidays?

I just realized this is our 3rd Thanksgiving Foodie Friday together (*sigh*). Keeping with tradition, I will post my recipe for Heart Attack Potatoes. Never underestimate the power of Cornflakes fried in butter. Seriously.

On the other end of the T-Day spectrum, producer Elliot Garnier is giving thanks that he doesn’t have to travel to sit in front of a stuffed bird. His family is coming to him this year for a Vegan Thanksgiving. What does that entail? Details to come.

But what foods do you look forward to for Thanksgiving?
Do you play it traditional or have a fiesta?
What's your signature dish? What do you bring to Thanksgiving dinner?
Is it a can opener?

Elliot's vegan/ veg-curious recommendations for Non Turkey Day.

Tofurky Roast with Giblet Gravy No one will ever mistake this for real turkey. The plus is that it’s the tastiest mock-meat in existence, and the texture isn’t entirely unappealing. Use the marinade listed on the box, throw diced potatoes, carrots, and onion in the roaster with it.

Lazy Vegan Cabbage Rolls  It’s not a holiday dinner unless it incorporates at least one Ukrainian dish.
1 large Jar of Sauerkraut
1 large onion + diced Yves Veggie Bacon fried in Earth Balance margarine
6 cups of cooked Minute Rice
Mix it all together and bake it at 350 F for 40 minutes

Broccoli and Cheese Boil some broccoli and cover it with this awesome “cheese” sauce from Post Punk Kitchen.

Vegan Mashed Potatoes Boil a 3lb bag of potatoes, and add a few tablespoons of Earth Balance, and mash with a half cup of your favourite vegan broth. Add some chopped green onions.

Vegan Stuffing I could eat a salad bowl of this stuff. This recipe is solid.

Vegan Cheesecake The world’s best vegan cheesecake is better than the real thing. Just a little less almond extract than it says to.

And now, the recipe for the infamous Heart Attack Potatoes:

2 lbs. frozen hash browns, thawed
3/4 cups melted butter
1/2 cups chopped onion
1 can cream of whatever soup (asparagus? chicken? you pick)
1 large container of sour cream
2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
2.5 cups crushed cornflakes

Combine potatoes with 1/2 cup butter and everything else except cornflakes.
Fry 1/4 cup butter and cornflakes together in a pan and place on top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Eat. Complain about the pains in your chest.
