Happy Friday everyone!!
This likely means you'll be going out to see some live music this weekend, right? Well, good on you!!
On today's show, I will unveil my TOP 5 GIGS for the weekend that I think you might want to check out.
Eamon McGrath on his new album and fav venue - The Royal Albert in Winnipeg
Now, a few shows on this list take place in rather unique spaces, different from the traditional nightclub setting. These venues are often fun for an artist to perform in. Vancouver songwriter Dan Mangan is discovering that right now with his "Peculiar Travel Suggestions" tour. Check out the tour dates and you'll see he favors churches and halls over clubs and bars this time 'round.
Today, we want to hear about the music venues YOU love to go to. They could be barns, living rooms, heritage halls, old schoolhouses or even your favorite club or bar - it's an open playing field with our POLL QUESTION:
WHAT SO SPECIAL ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC VENUE?
Is it the physical space? The people who work there? The friends you always run into? Is it the excellent sound or the incredible food and cheap beer...?
Post your comments on the blog, or TWEET us up @ CBC Radio 3.
I'll also be speaking with one of the founders of a unique Vancouver music space currently in turmoil. Plus songwriter Eamon McGrath will drop by to tell us about his favorite places to play.
