The soundtrack for Sound City, the new documentary film directed by Dave Grohl, will be released on March 12. Until then, you can stream the album in its entirety for free, right here on CBC Music.
Sound City is Grohl’s directorial debut. It’s a film about the L.A. recording studio that was the source of countless legendary albums, including Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Neil Young’s After the Gold Rush, Tom Petty’s Damn the Torpedoes and Nirvana’s Nevermind. The studio and its analogue console struggle to survive in an increasingly digital age.
For the soundtrack, Grohl assembled the Sound City Players to showcase the human element of creating and recording music. The Players consist of musical heavyweights like Paul McCartney, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, among others. Stream the album below. It’s also available for pre-order on iTunes.
