It's tempting to say Seattle-based band Pickwick is poised to be the next Fitz and the Tantrums.
The group's neo-soul flair certainly lends itself to the comparison, but Pickwick's songs are less bombastic, and go deeper, than their show-stopper forebearers. At least that's my conclusion after listening to Pickwick's strong debut album, Can't Talk Medicine.
The band seems to have established a unique fusion sound: call it, perhaps, Pacific Northwest rock 'n' soul (though that doesn't quite roll off the tongue), given that you can hear the influence of the region's musical history mixed with borrowed blue-eyed soul. Pay special attention to the first single, "Lady Luck," which features the always incredible Sharon Van Etten on guest vocals.
