As winter comes to a close, Inside the Music has been busy with spring cleaning. We're embracing the thaw by re-releasing old shows unavailable until now. Each week we'll release a batch of classic Inside the Music broadcasts, from popular music movements across the world, to bizarre experiments in sound. We'll even bring back some classics from our regular series My Playlist, and we'll recap the historic RPM series, which discussed 5 crucial albums in Canadian music. Join us every Tuesday for more and more episodes from the archives.
Tuesday March 5th 2013
For your first look into the Inside the Music archives, you're getting the backbone of Inside the Music: My Playlists. Our regular series is where some of our most celebrated musicians, singers and songwriters share their favourite tracks, from musical touchstones to what’s currently on their ipods.
The archives hold some of our favourite editions of My Playlist, from stalwarts of rock n' roll to the digital experimenters of today. But the only place to begin is with a Canadian icon:
Robbie Robertson
Canadian songwriting legend Robbie Robertson takes the host's chair in this edition of My Playlist. Robertson is best known as guitarist and chief songwriter for the Band, having penned "Up on Cripple Creek," "The Weight," and "The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down". But he's much more than that. He produced some of Canada's top level of talent, he's done acting, written scores for Martin Scorsese, and explored his Mohawk roots with music written for his own people.

Sarah Harmer
Singer, songwriter and environmental activist Sarah Harmer hosts an hour of her favourite music. Sarah Harmer had been in bands for 15 years before her single "Basement Apartment" landed on Canadian ears. Time Magazine announced Harmer as the best debut of the year after her album, You Were Here. She has been a huge part in saving Ontario's Niagara Escarpment from further development, and has released 5 solo albums while doing it.

Joe Sealy
Jazz and blues pianist and composer Joe Sealy shares his favourite tracks. Joe Sealy's "Africville Suite" stands as a crowning moment in Canadian jazz. The list of musicians he's performed with is dense, but includes artists as famed as Sammy Davis Jr. These days, into his 70s, he remains actively scoring films and documentaries. Sealy was even awarded the Order of Canada in 2010. It's been decades since Sealy acted as musical director for some CBC television programs, but today we welcome him back.

Sass Jordan
Juno Award winning singer-songwriter, and actress, Sass Jordan shares her favourite tracks. Jordan made an impact immediately, winning a Juno in 1989 for Most Promising Female Vocalist. She toured and worked with industry heavyweights like Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Carlos Santana. Her music played on network television programs such as Melrose Place, Baywatch and Night Rider. She even starred as Janis Joplin off Broadway. A younger generation may even recognize her for her role as judge on Canadian Idol.

Hawksley Workman
Producer, singer and songwriter Hawksley Workman shares some of his favourite tracks. Workman is a quarky multi-instrumentalist whose music often is playful and creative. He has released 12 albums under his own name, plus producing albums for Sarah Slean, Great Big Sea, Serena Ryder, and many more of Canada's big-name artists. Those accomplishments make him one of the more prolific Canadian musicians today. Hawksley Workman can be heard filling in for Molly Johnson on CBC Radio 2 Morning Weekend from time to time, and we ask him to broadcast for CBC again on this edition of Inside the Music.
