Gold & Youth are part of the unabating wave of synth-pop acts surfacing across the country. Like Trust and Purity Ring, the Vancouver-based band create dismal, digitized landscapes perked up by vocal effects and a dance-y pulse. Unlike the others, they're a four-piece and their debut record was mixed by the same guy whose done stuff for Depeche Mode, Gareth Jones.
"Jewel" is the first single from Gold & Youth's upcoming LP, Beyond Wilderness, which comes out on Arts & Crafts May 14. The band, whose members include Matthew Lyall, Murray McKenzie, Jeff Mitchelmore and Louise Burns, released a 7-inch last year that led to them supporting Diamond Rings on tour.
They play Arts & Crafts' 10th anniversary party, Field Trip Music & Arts Festival, in Toronto on June 8.
