Meet Eric Abramovitz, Canada's next clarinet superstar. Abramovitz is one of CBC Music's Next! artists for 2013. Next! presents eight rising Canadian stars in classical music, recorded for broadcast on CBC Radio 2's In Concert. Below you can learn about Abramovitz, watch him perform and view our interview with him.
Abramovitz took up clarinet at age seven. He studied with Zaven Zakarian until age 17, and is currently studying with Alain Desgagné at McGill University. He is no stranger to winning competitions, having done so in his categories at the OSM Standard Life Competition (2011), the McGill Concerto Competition and the Canadian Music Competition (2004, 2006-2009, 2011).
These and other achievements have led to solo performances with I Musici, l'Orchestre Symphonique de Trois-Rivières, the McGill Symphony, l'Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes de Montréal and l'Orchestre Symphonique de Québec (coming up in April). He has also performed at the National Artist Centre as part of the Musically Speaking concert series.
