Countertenor Daniel Taylor has a lot on his plate. He's been invited to be head of early music at the University of Toronto, a new position and unique in Canada. His own ensemble, the Theatre of Early Music, is based in Montreal and offers a full concert season annually at home and abroad.
Taylor grew up in Ottawa where he sang in choirs and thought of music as a natural part of life. Surprised to learn that it could be a profession, he moved to Montreal to study music and religion. In England, in 1997, Taylor received praise for his performance in Peter Sellar's production of Theodora by G.F. Handel. He toured for several months with John Eliot Gardiner and the English Baroque Soloists as they performed Bach cantatas in the actual churches for which Bach wrote them. Taylor continues to tour regularly with soprano Dame Emma Kirkby, and talks about their work together on This Is My Music. He has recorded more than 100 CDs with Canadian and international musicians, and that makes him Canada's most prolific recording artist.
Taylor hosts This Is My Music on Saturday, March 23, on CBC Radio 2, from 10:05 a.m. to noon ET, 11:05 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. AT.
