Jazz is deep music. It gives us moments of sheer transcendence. It's witty and sophisticated; it's as earthy as the blues. Then again, there are times it's just kooky. Think of Slim Gaillard's Cement Mixer, or the predilection jazz musicians have for incongruous quotes in the middle of otherwise fiery solos (e.g., "English Country Garden"), not to mention a general fondness for obscure wordplay (O Holy Night (in Tunisia), anyone?).
So maybe it shouldn't come as a surprise that jazz might inspire the odd kooky photo op. Click on "open gallery" and be transported to a bygone world of jazz-related kookiness.
