Everyone's been there. When you're asked to do something that you don't know how to do. When you're minding your own business and suddenly you're way out of your depth and you don't have a choice-- and you're going to have to fake it.
You know the feeling - your hands start to sweat, your heart beats faster, your whole body gets warm and you know that you might just get caught not knowing what you're doing.
That's what happened to Pat, the new bassist from Modern Superstitions. Pat had just joined the band when they were guests on the TV show LA Complex. When they got to the set, the crew told them they were going to have to lip sync a song- one that the band hadn't taught Pat yet.
He bugged the producers not to use that song but it was too late. They'd made up their mind. So, he tried begging all the camera operators to not shoot him as much because he didn't want to look like he didn't know what he was doing. When they shot the scene, and Pat tried his best to fake his way through.
Turned out the camera operators didn't listen... or didn't care. When Pat saw the episode, it was completely obviously he didn't know how to play the song. He was faking it... and it was all caught on television.
Now, you bet he knows all the songs.
So next time you have to fake it... just be glad no one's filming you.
