Over the last decade I’ve really been touched by old country and folk music. My love for it has brought me to the Grand Ol’ Opry, Dollywood and even to tears at last week’s Kris Kristofferson show. I find the storytelling incredible and powerful, though often simple.
If you would have asked me at age 16 what I thought about country music, you would have heard me say “I listen to everything BUT country.” I wish someone would have given me a Towns VanZandt record back then.
Today on twitter #tweetyour16yearoldself is the top trending topic. People from all over the world are sending a little note to their 16 year old selves. Not only are they funny (ex. Lisa Christiansen’s “The Stardust Roller Rink isn't romantic.” ) but also a funny reminder of what we were doing back then. (ex The New Pornographers’ Kathryn Calder's “Put down the ice cream, turn off the Much Music Countdown, and go outside.”)
Looking back, What were you listening to? Now, what records would you have recommended to your 16 year old self?
