Quick! What's your favourite 90s jam?
Don't be shy. It's okay if it's totally embarrassing. In fact, the more embarrassing the better.
This weekend at Canadian Music Week, Montreal's Mac DeMarco took the stage at Sneaky Dee's in Toronto. He (obviously) played a bunch of his old tunes... but he ALSO surprised us all with a cover of Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff." Remember that one? You PROBABLY remember the original video for that song:
I, for one, spent many an angry evening with my bedroom door slammed shut while that song blasted so my parents could know JUST HOW HORRIBLE THEY WERE FOR NOT LETTING ME GO TO ERICA'S HOUSE OVERNIGHT THOSE JERKS.
Ahem.
Couldn't find any video of the show in Toronto, but here's a video of Mac DeMarco (kind of) covering "Break Stuff" in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. (Skip to 1:10.)
Of course, Mac DeMarco definitely is not the first contemporary Canadian indie artists to cover 90s tunes!
What OTHER great 90s covers have you witnessed from Canadian indie bands? What 90s covers do you THINK should be done? Who should play them? And which 90s songs should never, ever, ever be revived?
