The popularity of the TV show So You Think You Can Dance has brought street dancing styles to the mainstream. Once confined to the language of an urban subculture, the terms popping, krumping and glitching have now entered our common dance vocabulary.

So it was only a matter of time before street dance broke free of its traditional hip-hop and electronic music bonds to include soul, pop, jazz and yes, even classical music.

In this new CBC Music video, Rex Harrington (artist in residence with the National Ballet of Canada, where he was principal dancer from 1988 to 2004) introduces us to five exciting young dancers who bust a move to classical tunes.

Can you suggest other works of classical music whose beat would appeal to street dancers? Let us know in the comments below.
