Ever since Canadian icon Joni Mitchell crooned to return home to California, various Canadian musicians have had an intense fascination with the Golden State. Over the years many songs by our beloved Canadian rockers about drinking in California, losing California and even snowing in California have emerged into our musical market. Artists like Winnipeg's Chantal Kreviazuk, and husband Raine Maida, waste no time boasting their L.A. life in interviews.
In recent time, this migration has been happening in reverse. Toronto band Snowblink is fronted by San Fransisco chanteuse Daniela Gesundheit. Together the now Canadian duo composes songs about old California dreams and "Unsurfed Waves".
Newly formed duo Thorcraft Cobra is self described as a Calgary outfit. Canadian native Billy Zimmer teamed up with Californian musician & TV producer Tammy Glover to form a rock band that derived from Canadian history and touches on American politics.
Call it a trend, or call it a coincidence but Canadian musicians will always have a love for California and it's nice to see the love reciprocated.
