Could you live with only 100 albums?

There are times in life when you actually learn how much stuff you own, and usually that happens when you move. Why did you get that weird ceramic poodle at a yard sale? How is it that you can’t find the proper cord for that record player, but you seem to have 14 that don’t fit into any appliance at all!? Why are you so emotionally attached to the old uncomfortable desk chair you bought in university?

Sometimes you need to purge. But purging is especially difficult when it comes to your music.

While waiting for 6 boxes of music – ranging from old mixtapes to CDs to vinyl – to arrive, I realized I have yet to figure out a place for it all to go. My pal Cameron – he had the answer:

Own only 100 records.

In addition to whatever you have on your computer, you are allowed space for just 100 albums. When you want a new one, you have to look through your collection and decide which one you need to give away to make room for the addition. 100. No more, no less.

This reminded me of the great late BBC broadcaster John Peel. Though he had one of the most vast and incredible collections of vinyl albums (over 100,000!) – he also had his ‘record box’. Within this little wooden box was his favourite 143 singles. Should you have the time you can watch the documentary about it.

COULD YOU LIVE WITH OWNING JUST 100 ALBUMS?
Could cull your collection to 100 physical albums as long as you had a digital backup?
