Well, they aren't from Montreal, but they came, they played acoustically, and they conquered. Hey Rosetta!, everyone's favourite band from St. John's Newfound land, made a matinee appearance at M for Montreal on Friday, gracefully and quietly stealing the thunder from all who rocked before them on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
They held the audience of groggy international delegates in rapt attention, even getting them to unfold their arms long enough after each song to give the band a huge ovation, which believe me, is rare when it comes to international delegates from the music industry.
Why were Hey Rosetta! so good? One simple word: SONGS. Great, great SONGS. It's something that I didn't hear a lot of on night one or two. I was thrilled to hear several NEW Hey Rosetta! songs, one in particular called "Bandages". During the introduction I thought it might be a Hot Hot Heat cover, as they had just come off a "4-H Club" tour with that band, but no, "Bandages" is a new Hey Rosetta! original and a great one at that.
Later, a representative from the band shared the news that the new album will be called Seeds and will be released on Feb 15, 2011. After their courting performance at M for Montreal for festival bookers and agents from around the world, let's hope they're around in Canada long enough for us to see them play the new songs live!
