In the 1960’s my mother moved to Detroit to become a legal secretary. She actually went to school to learn how to be a receptionist, and still writes notes in shorthand to this day.
Mama Gay lived in the Motor City during the prime days of Motown, and that is why I'm such a fan of the music.
Whenever she visits, in addition to bringing along crate of Leamington tomatoes in her carry-on luggage (she doesn't' mess around when it comes to produce), I've also convinced her to bring me some of her old vinyl.
I was raised on the Motown albums she brings, and luckily, the almost 50 year old records are still in great condition! Gladys Knight & the Pips, Shorty Long, The Velvelettes, The Supremes, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Marvin Gaye (who I often joke was my cousin, you know he added an ‘e' to his last name right?)
WHAT MUSIC DID YOUR PARENTS INTRODUCE YOU TO?
Did you hate the music as a kid, but grow to love it?
What was the coolest album in their record collection?
