There are many different kinds of musical performances. Most involve individuals or groups of people standing on a stage playing instruments and singing.
But a few also happen to involve fake blood, beastly costumes and a general fear for your life.
That last description comes from anyone who has ever taken in a Gwar concert, as our R3 producer Brent Hodge did last night. The Richmond, Virgina schlock rock band has been entertaining audiences for nearly two decades with their over-the-top stage show.
I guess for me seeing the Flaming Lips comes about as close to crazy as I can recall. And I’m quite certain that the band is as equally loved for their trippy songs as their amazing live shows.
Not every band puts as much into a show as Gwar or the Flaming Lips – but why not? If you’re heading out for the evening to see a band, shouldn’t there be some reason besides hearing a note-perfect recreation of the band’s songs?
On today’s show:
WHAT MAKES
A GREAT LIVE SHOW?
ARE YOU
MORE LIKELY TO HEAD OUT IF THE SHOW PROMISES TO BE SOMETHING SPECTACULAR?
Or
ARE YOU
HAPPY JUST SEEING LIVE MUSIC… FULL STOP.
Brent will join me for a review of the show. And he’ll also let us in on some behind the scenes stories, too.
