I still recall the feelings I had when I first heard the Silt's album, Cat's Peak, which came out in 2007. I was already a fan of the band's previous work, which possessed a raw fragility, like things could fall apart at any second but that that was okay, that things do fall apart some times, and we not only learn to live with it, but we come to accept life as this rickety thing that can give way at any moment. Something about the album's first song, "No Twig" has always haunted me. I can be walking down a street, or reading a book, or getting my teeth examined in a dentist's chair when, out of nowhere, my mind insistently cries out, "...My heart is no twig..."
The Silt bowed out of making music with a seven hour farewell show at the Tranzac in Toronto on December 3rd, 2010. In honour of the Silt and their great musical insights on life, please enjoy their lovely, spirited song, "No Twig."
