Last week I was telling you about all the TV shows and movies that I somehow missed growing up. I didn't watch a lot of TV when I was a kid and what I did get to watch was carefully scrutinized. Saturday morning cartoons?! Hah, yeah right, get serious.
So, I think as an adult, I've maintained this sense that entertainment can't just be pure fluff. Arts + entertainment = work. You buy an album, you sit and listen to it front to back, full attention. You watch a movie, you study and analyze the style and themes.
So I have a confession: this weekend, I went to see Piranha 3D. Surprised? What's happened to me you ask? Well, after a late night in Victoria @ Rock of the Woods Music Festival the night before, flesh eating fish was about all my tired brain could handle.
I've learned over the years that there is fair value in entertainment as escapism. Sometimes, it's okay to cheat on your diet just a little bit...right? So, I'm wondering - does the same thing apply to music?
WHAT MUSIC IS PURE ESCAPISM FOR YOU?
What do you like to listen to forget your troubles? What's the perfect elixir to a rough day? A song you dance to, thrash around to, blow off steam to? Or maybe something that mellows you out, relaxes you, helps you float away?
Whatever gets you escapin' reality. Post your insights and REQUESTS on the blog or Tweet us at CBC Radio 3.
