As a nameophile, every year I am fascinated by band name trends.
Though the ‘wolf’ period is often referenced, let’s not forget the 'oceans and waters' of 2007: Hey Ocean!, Said the Whale, Great Lake Swimmers. Of course, the love of eagles that also made an appearance with Baby Eagle, Eagle & Hawk, Ill Eagle and others.
I thought things may have changed when the Halloween/ scary themes took over (The Ghost is Dancing , Vampire Weekend, Fake Shark, Real Zombie!), but I believe a prairie theme followed (Rural Alberta Advantage, The Wheat Pool, The Albertans)
Let’s not forget the vowel haters, JPNDRDS, MSTRKFT, MGMT.
Looking back at 2010, I’d have to say we have steered back into the wild because of popular releases from Wilderness of Manitoba, Treelines, Mountains & the Trees, Wildlife, The North Lakes. Perhaps you disagree? (My best was that it'd be the year of the racoon. Close!)
Time to place your bets folks!
