The Breakfast Club takes a trip down to Bar One on Queen St. W. in Toronto to catch up with Jake Fairley and James Sayce of Bishop Morocco! Jake can be kinda elusive because he spends much of his time living overseas and tending to his solo electronic music project, Fairmont. James is actually a little too accessible, know what I'm sayin'? Any way it's been a long time coming for me to get Bishop Morocco on the show and ask them about their self-titled debut that came out last year. Will it be worth the wait? No. Actually, it's been brought to my attention that that's an awful way to convince people to listen to this show. Um, I'm not sure if it will be worth it? Maybe? I mean, most likely. Only one way to find out!
Are you a fan of Bishop Morocco? Any plans to pick up their self-titled, debut record?
I have five CD copies of it to give away to the first listeners who can correctly answer the following questions about today's show on the blog:
1. What band’s songs did Jake “mash-up” for his first real musical experimentation?
ANSWER: BEASTIE BOYS - WINNER: DOCTOR_BLIND
2. Jake and James had a band called Robot Jox (sp?) when they were kids. What club in Toronto gave them a weekly residency for a while?
ANSWER: THE CAMERON HOUSE - WINNER: TB3
3. According to James, who was one of the first people to interview Bishop Morocco for a Toronto magazine?
ANSWER: SEBASTIEN GRAINGER - WINNER: MIKEV
4. What does James want me to do with any unclaimed Bishop Morocco CDs from this contest?
ANSWER: GIVE THEM BACK - WINNER: STEPHRAMSAHAI
5. Who do Bishop Morocco feel is responsible for taking down the Berlin Wall?
ANSWER: DAVID HASSELHOFF - WINNER: CONRI
The answers to these questions, and possibly others, will turn up on today's show. If you end up being the first person to post a winning answer on the blog, please e-mail vish_khanna [at] cbcradio3.com with "Bishop to Knight 4" in the subject line, and your blog moniker and shipping address in your message.
Ever eaten a particularly memorable breakfast on a street named after a queen? How many chess references can we make on the the blog this morning? I'll be "checking" throughout today's show. Ha! See what I did there? Quite a premise I've "pawned" upon you, eh? Ooh, that one was a "thimble" full of awful. Oh, Monopoly there, not chess. I'm screwing this up...
What are YOU having for breakfast?
