I feel like all I talk about is music, there is so much out there to be discovered, and Canada has an astounding amount of talent.
I spent the first two decades of my life in Newfoundland, growing up with one Grandfather who played Simani on his accordion while my other Grandfather was glued to his guitar. I've attended university at MUN in St. John's and MSVU in Halifax. Both cities have live music, every night of the week! Sure, I enjoy those packed shows, full of energy and crazed fans, but personally I find it's best to check out the small pubs. You know, the ones with just a few people hanging out, a few regulars, and someone will get up on stage and give the banjo a strum, and suddenly you've been transported to another world, riding the notes, low and high. I've traveled from one side of the country to the other and find myself settled in Alberta, for now.
I started off in Waterton Lakes National Park in the summers as my escape from univesrity. Avoiding a "real job" after univeristy was over, I began working at the Twin Butte General Store and Restaurant. It is simply amazing the amount of talent that rolls through that little bar. Currently, I can be found anywhere around Calgary where there is live music. Unless of course it's a weekday, and I'm at my desk listening to CBC Radio 3! My major summer music endeavor is to attend Folk On The Rocks in Yellowknife.
Many thanks to Craig and CBC Radio 3 for providing access to all the Canadian talent that's out there!
