I’ve always loved the Lesley Gore song ‘Sunshine, Lollipops & Rainbows’ so imagine my excitement when spying ‘Puppy Dog’s & Rainbows’ on Spring Breakup’s track listing.
That was, of course, before I learned that the album is all about the pro’s and cons of breakups (clearly I’m the master of the obvious, “Spring Breakup”)
The song, though, is far from cheery. They lyrics, referencing bad luck and misfortune in love, are still sweet, simple and memorable, setting up a cinematic scene in my mind, an old bar full of consoling, heartbroken folks.
Mathias Kom from The Burning Hell, and Whitehorse songwriter Kim Barlow make up this magnificent duo. Perhaps distance works better for bands than relationships, regardless, they’d have more writing material for their next record.
