Hi folks!

I am super excited to be a part of The Listener Co-Host Initiative! For those that don’t know me, I am Carly Gowan (aka carlyg on the blog).  I am a big music lover and I am excited to share some of my favourite R3 artists with you over the next few hours.

A little bit about me, I grew up on a lovely farm near Swift Current, SK and have since moved around a bit throughout the Prairie Provinces. I have been living in Regina, SK for the past year or so and it’s pretty dang swell. We have an awesome little CBC R3 community in Regina.  I currently work as the Program Coordinator for SaskMusic, which is pretty great. I love working in the music industry and feel really grateful that I get to!

I have been an R3 listener for many years and I honestly can’t remember how I found R3, but I started listening to Grant Lawrence’s podcasts pretty much from the third or fourth edition. I eventually transferred over to listening to the radio station and now listen everyday. I am a fan.

A large part of my love of music was definitely influenced by my parents. Growing up, we listened to music constantly and we went to a number of music festivals yearly. To this day, we still go to festivals as a family (Regina Folk Festival and Calgary Folk Festival this year) and we constantly update each other with new musical finds. My mom also came with me to SXSW this past March, which was incredible!

So, the poll question of the day: Is there any music that you listen to that your Mom hates?? Do you share a love for any particular artist/band with your Mom? I have also now realized (and soon so will you) that I say “awesome” excessively, so if you have any suggestions of other awesome words I can use in its place please let me know!

 PS.  Hi mom! Love you!"
