Toronto! Every time I think I'm out, you pull me back in. After many weeks away from the big smoke, the Breakfast Club heads to Clinton's for a meal with pop-rockers the Meligrove Band for a chat about their forthcoming new album, Shimmering Lights. And even though it's not out until September 21st, I have five copies of this CD to offer the first bloggers who correctly answer my questions about today's show. Plus, a new twist in the "Blanks" series will find us engaging in a game of Who's the ____?
Formed in Mississauga, ON, the Meligroves have been around for some 10 years, emerging in the wake of the mid-90s pop explosion fostered by Sloan, Thrush Hermit, the Super Friendz, Plumtree, and the Inbreds among others. Without losing their pop acrobatics, they've progressed into a heavy, intricate rock band and, after seeing them again recently after many, many years (they've been lying kinda low) at the Sonic Boom independent record store day celebrations, I was just blown away. Blown! The new songs are terrific and I know you're gonna enjoy Shimmering Lights.
Are you a fan of the Meligrove Band? Are you able to seei them live with Tokyo Police Club + Arkells, or maybe with Born Ruffians? Any plans to pick up their new album, Shimmering Lights?
I have five CD copies to give away to the first listeners who can correctly answer the following questions about today's show on the blog:
1. What club in which city did Vish and the Meligrove Band first encounter one another?
2. What song on the Meligrove Band’s new album is an homage to “the Mississauga sound?”
3. Where do the Meligrove Band plan to get married?
4. Who is apparently the most racist/internet savvy member of the Meligrove Band?
5. What country would Jay and Darcy describe as “the motherland?”
So, the answers to these questions should turn up on today's show. If you end up being the first person to post a winning answer on the blog, please e-mail vish_khanna [at] cbcradio3.com with "Jay and the Fatman" in the subject line, and your blog moniker and shipping address in your message.
Ever eaten a particularly memorable breakfast in Toronto? What makes it stand out?
