A moment of silence for "The Father of Loud." Jim Marshall, inventor of the Marshall amplifier, has died at the age of 88.
Marshall was known throughout the world for founding Marshall Amplification and taking advantage of a gap in the market for cheaper amplifiers that still provided a quality sound. Marshall owned a music shop in west London, and through interactions with customers like Ritchie Blackmore and Pete Townshend, he put his mind to amplifiers. His amps would eventually be synonymous with the rock sound and his "Marshall stack" of amplifying equipment a defining feature of rock concerts.
Marshall died after a long battle with cancer and suffering several strokes.
