Did you catch Jian Ghomeshi’s interview with soprano Measha Brueggergosman on Q Wednesday? Brueggergosman is currently touring to support her latest album, I’ve Got a Crush on You, on which she takes a break from opera to sing a very personal selection of popular songs and sacred tunes. All but four of the 13 tracks were recorded live at club dates in Halifax and Brueggergosman’s hometown of Fredericton.
The award-winning soprano is best known for her interpretation of classical music by Jules Massenet, Hector Berlioz and Richard Wagner, with lush orchestral accompaniment. But on her latest album, which she produced and funded herself, Brueggergosman presents sparse arrangements of tunes by Ron Sexsmith, Leslie Feist, George Gershwin and Joni Mitchell.
