Now entering its 10th season, Montreal's Piknic Électronik is set to make a huge leap forward – an ocean-sized leap, actually.
The weekly fun-in-the-sun summer festival has just announced plans to launch a satellite season in Barcelona's Montjuïc Park. There, Spanish fans of electronic music will enjoy 10 dates over the course of the summer.
"Stemming from a simple idea, Piknic Électronik's concept has continued to evolve over the years and it has undeniably become a major tourist attraction," says Nicolas Cournoyer, general director and co-founder of Piknic Électronik. "We're used to welcoming visitors from all over the world looking to discover the countless tastes of Montreal, and now we get to bring some of that flavour to places that share an affinity with Montreal and especially with Piknic."
With the official opening of Piknic Électronik's 10th season just over a month away, organizers are again expecting crowds of up to 3,000 at the festival's main site in Montreal's Jean-Drapeau Park. For the lucky ducks in the Ottawa area, the Gatineau Piknic returns for a second season at the gardens of the Canadian Museum of Civilization starting June 10th. And the Piknic team is also working hard to confirm visits to Vancouver and Quebec City, so residents of those cities, keep your fingers crossed!
