Hello Folks.
Since I was a youngster in Winnipeg I've always embraced September with new music, new ideas and new socks. I guess I've always been trained to prepare for first day of school and taught to gather and save all my new belongings until school started. This included my new Sony Walkman I purchased with my allowance every year. But the real anticipation had always been to eagerly await fall record releases. Personally, it was the music that defined the months of September and October and played soundtrack to my galavanting. To this day I still feel that newness in the air and look forward new releases. Are there any releases you are looking forward to this fall?
My fondest memory of a September release was skipping school to buy "Buhloone Mindstate" by De La Soul. I first discovered De La Soul at a young age listening to CBC's Brave New Waves on my clock radio in the wee wee hours. This was before the internet, so the work done in order to find out the name of the song & artist I had just heard was tremendous. I basically called the program director at Brave New Waves in Montreal explaining the exact time and date De La Soul was broadcasted and had him check the show logs to confirm the artist. This process took a few days to get right because his logs were scribbled in pen and the song times were off. The moment I discovered De La Soul was the moment I decided I wanted to compose rap tunes.
I'll touch on this year's fall releases in the show today including Hannah Georges, A.C. Newman and Great Bloomers.
