Every month there are thousands of new songs, albums and gigs, but every so often we take a look at the non-musical products released by musicians. Here is some of the best merch from August.
1. The Lady Gaga toothbrush

While it’s hard to imagine Lady Gaga doing anything as normal as brushing her teeth (she probably uses a McQueen couture dental wand), the singer has released a singing toothbrush. The gold-coloured device plays “Born This Way” for your morning brushing session and “Bad Romance” at night. Each song plays for the dentist-recommended two minutes.
2. Rap rugs

When you think hip-hop, you think rugs. OK, maybe you don’t but the folks at DefRugs do. Co-founded by Erick Sermon of EPMD, DefRugs makes custom rugs emblazoned with hip-hop logos like those of RUN DMC, Naughty By Nature, Beastie Boys, among others.
3. Deadmau5’s cat headphones
As we reported earlier this month, Deadmau5’s cat buddy, Professor Meowingtons, pHd, teamed up with Sol Republic to release these headphones for cats. Seriously. They’re kitty-size and they offer “dog-isolating technology." Only 10 pairs were manufactured, including one that was to be auctioned off, starting at $999, to benefit the ASPCA. No bidders showed up on eBay, so at least one pair should still be available.
