TGIF! Once again Friday is here and you’ll be hearing the latest tracks added to the R3 playlist.
The Canadian Country Music Association Awards are being broadcast on CBC this Sunday, and if you tune in you’ll hear me a lot, as I’m the voice of the show! I’ll also be tweeting from the gala and walking the red carpet, fancy (you can stream the red carpet show on CBC Live and laugh at me teetering in heels.) It is all quite exciting, and though it’ll be a quick trip, if you have any recommendations for food, fun and other things in Saskatoon, you just let me know.
This whole experience has been great at introducing me to Canada’s biggest country music stars, and in case you need a crash course, we have a blog for CCMA’s primer for you! Though by 8 years old I knew every track off Patsy Cline’s greatest hits album by heart, as a teenager, I didn’t really give country music much of a chance. I was too focused on grunge and trying to find the best plaid shirt at Value Village… but slowly it crept into my life through mixtapes from friends and roommates, great record finds and fantastic stories. I now love country music.
WHAT HAVE YOU GROWN TO LOVE?
Songs? Genres? Food?
If you told me at 15 about the daily Lanarama Banjo’clock feature I would have probably just rolled my eyes and reapplied my lipstick (in the shade ‘Toast of New York’ obviously.) Now, I can’t get enough!
My adoration for Dolly Parton led to a road trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. My appreciation of the genre brought me to the Ryman Auditorium, the Country Music Hall of Fame, Loretta Lynn's ranch and the Grand Ol’ Opry where I met Little Jimmy Dickens! You can watch some highlights in the R3TV "Southern Fried."
