Hello! My name’s Anne, I’m a writer and person who lives in Ontario, and I’m super excited to be guest hosting today. If you want to know more about me, I write for websites like Yahoo! OMG! TV, Huffington Post Canada and Hello Giggles, and I also have a podcast where my friend and I celebrate important things like party rap and chips for dinner. SO THERE’S THAT.
But this is my first guest-hosting gig with CBC Radio 3, which is super exciting for about a million reasons. One of them is because over the next four hours, we get to treat ourselves (Treat! Our! Selves!) to sweet jams by bands like Purity Ring, Diamond Rings, Japandroids and Hot Panda.
Now let the record state that I actually didn’t know much about Hot Panda until recently. But because I am a human being who loves laughter, I hit up Comedy Bar in Toronto for a night during Canadian Comedy Week, where – drum roll, please everyone – Chris Connelly of the band joined comedian Ryan Biel on stage for what can only be described as an exercise in proving why improv rules all/most/etc.
So sometimes that’s all it takes: if you are in a band, and want to increase your fanbase, perform at Catch 23 at Comedy Bar, and let the magic ensue. (Or just play good music, which works just as well.)
So that’s just one of the stories we’re going to talk about today! CAN YOU BELIEVE THERE WILL BE MORE? So with that I ask you: what are YOUR favourite comedy-music collaborations? Jon Wurster on The Best Show? Ted Leo playing How Was Your Week Live? Jack White on Marc Maron?
Discuss. Talk amongst yourselves. Below.
