Richard Strauss helps paint the picture of a functioning marriage. His relationship with his wife was not flawless. They argued, at times publicly. But as their marriage grew, Strauss' wife developed a great comment to end the bickering. It went something along the lines of: "Oh, go compose something." And he would. The results speak for themselves.
(our on-air broadcast featured the 3rd movement of Strauss' duet concertino, performed by the Vienna Philharmonic)
If you're a fan of hockey (and even if you aren't) you're likely aware of the potential lockout this season. The billionaire owners are arguing with the millionaire players about who gets a slightly larger piece of the pie. We're here to offer a solution - care of Shift listener John Gotziaman: The owners get 47% of revenue, the players also 47%. The remaining 6% (because that's what this argument is over) goes to charity. Once the parties involved can get their greedy selves together they can have their 6% back. In the mean time, people who make their living AROUND hockey, and plenty of charities, benefit. Can't we agree on that much?
We've also got some wild facts about Mount Everest. Not only is it the tallest mountain in the world, but it's growing! That, and some more completely unbelievable truths about one of the true wonders of this world.
And for your viewing enjoyment! Check out these 32 wind-up metronomes that, in under 2 minutes, synchronize with each other completely independently:
