He’s long been an outspoken U.S. Democratic Party backer, but rock superstar Bruce Springsteen is taking his support a step farther and once again hitting the campaign trail with President Barack Obama.
According to the Obama campaign, the American rock superstar will perform at campaign rallies in battleground states including Ohio and Iowa on Thursday, October 18. Former President Bill Clinton will also appear alongside Springsteen at the Ohio event.
According to Obama-Biden campaign manager Jim Messina, the appearances are part of a push to get the vote out.
"Iowans understand hard work, fairness and integrity, the same values that Bruce Springsteen, the president and vice president stand for," he said in a statement. "Springsteen's appearances will be valuable in energizing supporters and getting out the vote effort in these important swing states."
The appearances come in the midst of Springsteen’s Wrecking Ball Tour, which includes upcoming stops in Ottawa, Hamilton, Vancouver, and across the United States.
So what other music stars have the 2012 candidates’ backs? It seems that, when it comes to official endorsements, Obama has most of the star power, while Romney has won the hearts of the country set and some of the classic rock crowd:
