Nowadays, in Canadian indie rock, there's an awful lot of sharing, collaboration, and cross-pollination going on. Collectives like Broken Social Scene and all of its derivates provide one of the best examples. But the reality is that plenty of Canadian artists work together, under different names and in different circumstances.
Take the example of tonight's featured artist: Jonas Bonetta. Jonas Bonetta performs under the name Evening Hymns. The musicians who play with him in this project variously populate bands like Ohbijou, The Wooden Sky, The Burning Hell, The D'Urbervilles and Forest City Lovers.
Bonetta lost his father, John, in February of 2009, to a rare blood disease he had battled for seven years. In the summer of 2012, Jonas Bonetta released his artistic response to the loss of his father and mentor: an album called Spectral Dusk.
Tonight on Canada Live, we have a live concert version of Spectral Dusk for you, recorded at Toronto's Great Hall. Evening Hymns, the duo, is supported by a substantial group of musicians, true to form.
Tune in for that. Can't wait that long? Hear it on Concerts on Demand.
